When suddenly, the ...welcome to the grown up world. When suddenly, the future of you, resides solely and completely on you, no do over, things get scary. Businesses like what you describe, reside everywhere here especially in a struggling economy. That is why, despite flaws, we rejoice with stories of google and the like. Today you were honest. Hold on to that because in the future, there will come a time again when you sit down and say nothing even if you want to. We all do at times. You choose your battles and sometimes you simply choose WHEN to join the battle. It's a balancing act. Decisions that say who you are and who you want to be. Recognizing your own choices and speaking them out loud with your regrets means there is a chance next time you'll refer back and consider trying something else. And you're slowly learning that you don't have to defend every cause to be someone who stands for what they believe in. Either way, expressing all of this makes you someone I hope I know for a long time to come. The first years I've taught don't know that they're almost illiterate. b) There are so many other things to read other than the most formal of literature. For instance, bored with the traditional "summer reading shelves" at the library, I've started reading Canlii for my relaxing summer reading. There are lots of ...I think that's a good idea. There are lots of things I like about me that I think make me a good person. As to the sadness, as I said, it is very difficult to describe. I know what normal lethargy and depression feels like, but the sadness I carry in me when I'm not medicated is something completely different. It doesn't come and go, you can be out in the world, out with friends, having a good time, but you can still feel it underneath it all. It unshakeable. Its a sadness not for yourself, but for the whole world, and it just sits in your gut, gnawing at you. Constant, endless sadness. Endless guilt, a sense of having failed the whole world. I know that doesn't really make sense. . .its like trying to explain colors to someone who hasn't seen them. There's something different in me, that makes my core feelings (which for most people I think are pretty neutral) skewed towards sadness. Steviehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12359820404247952784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2771202276408424075.post-60035911927124455972013-03-21T02:59:32.729-07:002013-03-21T02:59:32.729-07:00Stevie...
I think your next post should be a post ...Stevie...
I think your next post should be a post about the things that you would never ever change about yourself.

While in the shower the other day, I was thinking about being sad and depressed and how some days I feel that way but I wouldn't ever call myself 'depressed'. In my head, I justified it as... just a feeling that came and went and came and went. Like happiness, like anger, like frustration, like annoyance. But, I truly believe at my 'core' is something that is not sadness, or happiness, or anger, or frustration or any other thing that we feel and cause actions. And for some reason that was comforting to me, and I didn't worry so much about the way I felt. I'm not sure how much of that makes sense.

Sometimes being sad is caused by something. On days when I don't have anything to do early in the morning, and I spend in bed from 7am - 1pm, even if I'm doing something like doing homework - I get really really really depressed & sad. If I don't think about the fact that I haven't showered, barely moved, barely ate, and haven't seen the sun - I might just assume that I am depressed and it's not my surrroundings that are causing it.

If I have to get up in the morning for something before noon, if I make plans, if I eat, exercise, see the sun, talk to people, have a plan - I am much more happy. Have you noticed this as well?

Anyways stevie --- you need to post the other side of the equation next - what are things you'd never change about yourself?
Heidi Hoffmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08754084071600784603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2771202276408424075.post-2669669610829786412013-01-26T22:35:28.162-08:002013-01-26T22:35:28.162-08:00If you want others to be happy, practice compassio...If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. Just that they haven't tended towards being as vocal about it because to society in general it's seen as somehow unacceptable for a girl to like "those" games as much as guys (and even being vocal within the community tends to lead to fatuglyorslutty.com-esque harassment).
My inner Hulk always winds up winning on these sorts of discourses though (caps-lock since it's the Hulk): "WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE ABOUT GUYS V GALS? JUST LET US ALL LIKE WHAT WE LIKE D:" Liking types of games is rarely a mutually exclusive proposition. Personally my game library is full of variety, from Mahjong, Angry Birds and Sims to Skyrim, CivV, and Borderlands and plenty in between. Neither type of game-space is better or worse than the other any more than liking sci-fi is worse than liking fantasy.
With the possible exception of gamers who have devoted their time to being the best of the best in their MMORPG of choice, most people have the time to play more than one kind of game. People should just be accepted in whichever game-spaces they choose to inhabit, regardless of gender.
tl;dr I have a lot of feels.Veronicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10524333640687199341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2771202276408424075.post-87804429548026553092012-12-02T14:57:08.964-08:002012-12-02T14:57:08.964-08:00I remember reading something (I mean, part of this...I remember reading something (I mean, part of this is common knowledge) that said childhood play tends to be "gendered". But this gendering isn't just superficial. Girls are encouraged to play "pretend", with dolls, simulation essentially. They develop their verbal skills earlier and better than boys. Boys are encouraged to build stuff and play more "strategy" based games - they develop better spatial skills. Neither gender is inherently better at one or the other, but I think this may explain some of the "girlier" games vs. the "real" games that we encounter as adults.
